ROUND TABLE "Earth Sciences. The problem of studying dangerous natural processes in the Tien Shan lithosphere: current state and prospects"

On November 10, 2022, Russian House in Bishkek hosted a ROUND TABLE meeting "Earth Sciences. The problem of studying dangerous natural processes in the Tien Shan lithosphere: current state and prospects". The event is timed to the World Science Day (November 10) and was held on the eve of the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The round table was organized by the Research Station of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Bishkek city with the support of the Russian Federation Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic and the Representative Office of Rossotrudnichestvo in the Kyrgyz Republic.

Leading scientists of the following scientific organizations took part in the Round Table Институт геологии им. М. М. Адышева НАН КР (ИГ НАН КР), Институт сейсмологии НАН КР (ИС НАН КР), Институт геомеханики и освоения недр НАН КР (ИГиОН НАН КР), Центрально-Азиатский институт прикладных исследований Земли (ЦАИИЗ), Научная станции РАН в г. Бишкеке (ФГБУН НС РАН).

The participants of the Round Table discussed the current state of various aspects of the study of hazardous natural processes of the Tien Shan lithosphere and possible ways to improve their monitoring.

XIV International Conference of Young Scientists and Students

Oral presentation by the Director of RS RAS, lead scientific researcher, Dr. Rybin Anatoly Kuzmich. "Review. Electromagnetic studies of the structure and activity of fault zones».

  On September 30, 2022, Dr. Anatoly Rybin – lead scientific researcher of the Laboratory of Deep Magnetotelluric Soundings (Director of the Research Station of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Bishkek) at the joint seminar of the RS RAS and the IPE RAS "Geological and geophysical monitoring of the Tien Shan lithosphere" made an oral presentation. The presentation was devoted to a review of electromagnetic studies of the structure and activity of fault zones at various areas in Russia. A.K. Rybin introduced the audience to advanced research in the field of studying fault zones by electromagnetic methods using example works of the Moscow, Novosibirsk and Irkutsk geoelectric schools. After that, the current results of geological-and-geophysical studies of the Issyk-Ata fault zone (the region of the spurs of the Kyrgyz Range in the Northern Tien Shan), carried out by the staff of the Research Station within the framework of the Russian Science Foundation project No. 22-27-00567 "Study of the internal structure and dynamics of active geological faults using a complex of electromagnetic soundings (on the example of the Northern Tien Shan)”. At the same time, special attention was paid to the results of the field electrical survey work in 2022, carried out by the method of electrical resistivity tomography using the recently acquired Skala-48 measuring complex. The speaker presented new geoelectric models for the San-Tash, Boom and Tokbay profiles, crossing various segments of the active Issyk-Ata fault. These profile models are based on the materials of audiomagnetotelluric, magnetotelluric and electrotomographic soundings. In conclusion, A. Rybin outlined the tasks and ways of developing further research on the structure and dynamics of active fault zones in the Tien Shan.

  From July 19 to August 08 2022, the MTS group consisting of 4 teams performed work on two profiles in the Kochkor district of the Naryn region, Ukok-2 and Chon-Tuz. On the profile "Ukok-2", which is located south of the village of Kochkorka, teams No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 carried out work on magnetotelluric sounding (MTS) at 11 points. At 10 observation points, the duration of the registration of the MT field in the MTS mode was 60-65 hours, at the observation point FT21 in the deep MTS mode, the registration was performed in the form of two registration sessions, and the duration of each was about 240 hours. The work was carried out using Phoenix MTU-5 and MTU-5A measuring systems in the normal recording mode. At the same time, seismic fields were recorded at observation point FT21 using the installed gradient seismic installation.

  Before the start of the main work on the profile "Ukok-2", in the area of ​​the observation point FT15 (MTS), teams No. 3 and No. 4, using the multi-electrode station "Skala 48", carried out work on 24-hour monitoring in the amount of 37 blocks of measurements, duration every 40 minutes by methods of electric tomography and induced polarization, type of array configuration "Schlumberger".
